Arts & Letters Daily
Erudite compilation of cultural, political, and arts-related commentary on the web, with new things sneaking in every hour or so. Possibly the smartest bunch of folk available online but increasingly tending towards a right-wing reactionary smugness, more interested in justifying their existing opinions than in gathering the makings of new ones.

Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy (h2g2) at BBC Online
Kind of a potluck dinner approach to an on-line encyclopedia. But a dinner with joints being passed around, plenty of wine being consumed, and a couple of very entertaining but flaky guests who you'll never see again. This potentially amazing place is nothing near to its considerable potential. I wish it well but for now it's more discursive than definitive.

An organization for writers of speculative fiction, this low tech, unassuming site is not the place to go for general SF. But... if you're serious about your interest in the field, then drop by some time and look around. there are some hidden gems.

Melancholy, affecting zine and personal site, with sharp-edged articles and works that silently take your hand and lead you along an unsettling path past gender concerns, surface vs reality dissonances, salted slugs, pop images of theology. . .

Soviet -era political satire. Authorized and thereby limited in subject, this is still an intriguing look at the Communist-era world and a salutary reminder of why we're better off done with it. Visit soon before they take the site down.

Personally I think that they've lost focus recently but they're still pretty amazing. Of course, this has nothing to do with the fact that I used to do consulting for them;->
